The Girls' Done Good!!
Shropshire has been trying to set up county squads for girls cricket for the last few years and this year I am privileged to be the manager for the U-13 squad. They have been to indoor coaching sessions throughout the winter and outdoor coaching but tonight was their first match.
It was a 'friendly' against a small village youth squad - boys even, and it was the first time they had played against any other team as this squad. They played well: the bowling was pretty accurate, only two wildly wide overs, their fielding was OK and their batting definitely shows promise. And they won!!
I am so proud of them, it is an exciting thing to be part of. Our next big step is a match against Warwickshire U-13s on Sunday. That is going to be a different matter, as our coach told them, they are going to have to step up their quality of play quite radically for that. But tonight we are all happy!. Well done girls.
