cars...

Some months ago I fell for a little blue car that was parked in Newport, I have since identified it as a Pilgrim Bulldog. It was everything that a car shouldn't be for me!! (Well, I think I can safely leave reason behind now.) Have a look at this site -http://ulster-kitcars.org.uk/gallery.htm

However, in today's paper there was a whole article about a car that can be built out of cellulose and run on ethanol. Spare parts can be bolted on - rather like my favourite car the 2CV and when it is finished with you can compost it!!Wow - I wonder if they have a waiting list for them because I would really like to try this out. It resembles a green frog!

I wouldn't hold your breath :(

Proper electric cars that can be easily charged at home, can go over 120 miles on one charge and travel faster than 70mph are available, the technology is there. In fact, when they did a prototype Ford Ka using that type of fuel cell technology, it actually ran better than a traditional Ka.

Except no-one will put them into production :( Can you smell the oil lobby? I've looked into it quite indepth, and I the best I can get is an electric conversion - but that costs over £5000 on top of the normal price of the car, whereas if they'd built it as electric to begin with... (plus *why* aren't the government providing grants for these?!).

Other advantages are extremely low tax, no conjestion charge and free parking if you live in London. I WANT AN ELECTRIC CAR!!!!

OK come on nPewari, let's do something on the site that groups people together to change things.

Problem is, what to do? Who could you write to to enforce change? Local MP? Every time I write to him, he passes the buck to a cabinet minister who writes me a standard letter back saying why the current status quo is so bloody fantastic. Really makes me fume.

Hmm... maybe have a pledgebank to write to 5 car manufacturers to ask them to produce such a car? How many people minimum should join in do you think?

How about several hundred? I think it is so sily that we are doing nothing about it - even the bloomin compostable car has been composted!! Why aren't they building more and giving us the chance to use them? Perhaps we should write to the designer and perter him!

Prototypes cost enormous amounts of money, and time to develope, then the pre-production batches are still not a viable proposition, so in order to bring anything - especially a vehicle into production you need either a shedload of money, or a shedload of luck. And for British Inventors it is so unbelievably difficult to get anything into production they generally have to go abroad or sell their soul to do it.
I'll take my development engineers hat off now, but there is little help - especially from HMG.
And as Pewari says there is the Oil Lobby to contend with. And, large companies have been known to buy small ones just to bury their inventions too.
There is no justice now, but there will come a time.....

Now if you want to throw away large amounts of money ...... on the ultimate race!
Funnily enough there was an Eco car there last year! Didn't finish, but did quite well I remember.
