How Long??

Well, it normally takes about 35-45 minutes to do it, the journey to Keele that is. Somehow the trip was far longer today, I left at 12.30 and arrived at 3.30. On the way I remembered that it was my son's girlfriend's birthday on Thursday so I needed to buy a card, the best place that I knew of was in Eccleshall, so I stopped off and bought the card, sent it and then of course, wandered up to Mo's, found some trousers and two dressese that I liked and which fitted, then pootled down to the car and realised I was hungry. So what do you do in Eccleshall when hungry? Pop into Julian's and have lunch of course!! I also persuaded the librarian to let me borrow half a book, the front cover and opening section was missing, but she could see how desperate I was to borrow it, so she searched for the bar code and let it out into my desperate hands. Such a sad life I lead at the mo!!!

Today is the day!

My list of jobs for today, this is for my benefit you understand, I can't imagine anyone being interested in these things!
  1. Go to the gym
  2. Do an hour's gardening
  3. buy a box to store my glass vases in - they have been hanging around for far too long and I have no cupboard space for them.
  4. Ring the plumber.
  5. Go to Keele library - the books are due back today
  6. Ring Jill about drinks
  7. ring the chiropodist - they need to change my appointment
  8. ring the dentist and warn them there is another tooth to see to.
  9. find my library card for keele before I set off
  10. do some ironing
  11. do another section of writing on the thesis
  12. ring a man about the thesis
  13. write some reports for school

SO, I had better get on with some of them!! The telephoning thing is weird, however muchI try to make phone calls during the day at school, something always thwarts me, so these jobs have to be done at half term. Must get on - lots to do.

Our librarian is going to dine out on this for at least a fortnight.

There's always a silver lining to the grey cloud, even if it lines someone else's life, not yours. Always remember this, so that when you loose a book and even after the three times of renewing it you still can't find it, what do you do? If the guilt trip is working, go in and pay for it before the fines start accumulating. OK, done that, so what is the book called?
Improving your memory... Yup, that's right!!!!
If it was really clever it would have one of those alarm things on it so that when it hasn't been opened for several days it will tell you where you've put it, don't you agree? And I don't know why I've written 'you', cos of course it should me 'me'.
Shucks.

I went to learn about philosophy and...

came back being able to dowse!! I can use a pendant to answer questions with a yes/no choice and today I learnt how to use two pieces of coat hanger to find things like water, electrical wires etc. It is such fun!!
Oh and the philosophy was really good too, I have already led a session with my class and feel this is an excellent thing for them - gets them thinking and talking in a thoughtful way.
Might get this teaching lark right one day!!

Domestic Goddesses

There is no way that I can be described as anything approaching the state of DG. However, today I woke early - 5.30am!! Finished a book I have been reading then got up, had breakfast, cleared the kitchen, went shopping and did an hour and bit of torture in the gym. So I was home just after ten and checked my phone messages - only to find that I had one saying they had a cancelled appointment I could have at the hairdressers - when I was suffering the muscle agonies on the glutes machine. Why don't I check these bloomin machines each day? It has taken the shine off my pride in having done some cleaning, so now I am going to act out the sulky woman and attack the fridge in a negative and viscious way. Hah, so much for thinking I was organised for one day in my life!

I love computers ...

but, and there was bound to be one in this sentence!
NOT when they get viruses and worms; the social stigma of having worms is the same as it used to be when I was a child - tape worms and those you got from the cattle. OK, I know its not quite the same, but people still avoid you.
The computers in question are at school, this is the second time this year that Shropshire's school networks have had to be closed down because a worm has infected the whole system. So, tomorrow I am taking a typewriter in to school for our wonderful secretary. It is a 1930's model and I am sure she will love it - well, I'll let you know about that! I must dig it out from under the chest of drawers in the sitting room, she is going to have it dust and all!

Bluebell woods

I dashed over to the library at Keele this afternoon to renew some of my books that I have borrowed - the fines for late books are in excess of £2 a day per book - this is not going to be one of those things that I do, that is some deterrent.
the journey over there was lovely - did I remember my camera? Noh - dohhh. Just after I crossed the road by the pub at Whitmore, there is a lake and a wood in front of it, it was carpeted with bluebells and wild garlic - so lovely. The verges are also full of wild flowers at the moment and they haven't be mown so the colours are glorious, pinks, whites, blues etc.
Oh to be in England - I can understand that at these times. The weather however, has been awful! 4 o'clock in the morning I was woken by flashing lights outside - it was sheet lightning, there was no thunder but the rain made just as much noise. So much for the beauty sleep then!
